High-performance waterproof-breathable membrane changed the direction of performance textile manufacturing since 2017.

The health of the outdoor recreation industry depends on the health of the environment. Jack Wolfskin made a significant leap forward in providing sustainably-advanced materials in its apparel collection in 2017 with the introduction of Texapore Ecosphere – the waterproof-breathable performance fabric made with a 100% recycled membrane, outer and liner textiles.

The process of creating Texapore Ecosphere took two years of development with Jack Wolfskin’s manufacturing partners to find a solution that performed at the high levels associated with the brand.

Initially, six products in Jack Wolfskin’s hiking category incorporated the technology that was recognised in 2017 with an Outdoor Industry Award and UK Outdoor Industry Award.

By winter 2023 Texapore Ecosphere Pro is used in 58 styles, including accessories, footwear and apparel. Jack Wolfskin will have recycled nearly 96 tons of membrane which is the equivalent to 3.2 million meters. In addition, by this winter, Jack Wolfskin will have recycled the equivalent of 63 million 1-litre bottles.

Breakthrough Design Delivers Complete Weather Protection through Recycled Materials

Texapore Ecosphere represents a breakthrough as it is the first 100% recycled weather protection material. The membrane is made from cuttings generated during production and are recycled back into the production cycle – a zero-waste concept. The outer fabric and lining are made from recycled material such as bottles.

The balance between sustainability-centered textiles and outdoor performance attributes such as waterproofness, breathability, windproof-ness and comfort continue to challenge the performance apparel industry in developing new materials.

Texapore Ecosphere Pro is Jack Wolfskin’s pinnacle product that performs to the highest standards offers a water column of 20,000 mm and a breathability of 15,000 g/m²/24hrs* (measured in line with: * JIS L 1099 B-1, ** JIS L 1092).
