Looks

I love the fact that the Roxy Darwin boots don’t look like regular snow boots, their urban styling makes them look more like high-top trainers than snow boots though because of their styling initially, I was a little dubious about how they’d perform.

Available in various different colours I opted for black and I love the soft suede of the boots. One quirky feature is that Instead of the laces being tied at the front, they are tied around the back of the ankle which further adds to their unusual looks.

Performance

During my week away in the mountains in La Plagne, France, I wore them every single day and they coped brilliantly. There was lots of snow all around, and on one day in particular when I didn’t spend all day snowboarding, I did a lot of walking and sight-seeing and ended up trudging across the bottom of the slopes through thick snow, and the boots kept my feet both warm and dry.

The downside to these boots of course is that they are only ankle height and snow boots typically come a little further up the leg, so I’m not sure how well they’d cope with snow drifts, but on compacted snow they were brilliant.

Unlike trainers, the bottom of the boots have excellent grip with a pronounced tread that meant I didn’t put a foot wrong in them. The snuggly faux fur lining kept my feet warm and the laces that tie around the back of the boot didn’t come undone, though the laces are quite long so I keep mine tied in a double bow.

I really like the fact that once tied, you can then take them off and slip them easily back on again without having to undo the laces, so at home, they’ve been great to grab to slip on when I’ve needed to pop out in a hurry.

These boots are exceptionally comfortable and easy to wear. They keep your feet warm and dry and are everything I want in a snow boot. The really big bonus for me though is that because of their urban styling, I can wear them with pretty much anything and they look great when worn as a casual boot or trainer too.

I’ve had so much use out of them in the past 3 weeks that I already feel like I’ve got my money’s worth from them, and because they are leather and suede I’m expecting they’ll see me through many more years of use – definitely one of my favourite ever footwear purchases and worth every penny!

Update One Year On…

After 4 months of wear, I’m disappointed that the “ROXY” lettering started to come off the back of the shoes and now 12 months on, all the lettering on the back of the boots has fallen off completely ….but they are still super comfortable and I still love them!

I bought my Roxy Darwin boots from Surfdome for £47.95.
