The Verdict

With plans to go snowboarding later in the season and with some slope time booked at the Snowdome in Tamworth, I went on an expedition into attic to retrieve my snowboard and boarding gear. Both my old snowboardng jacket and pants are now far too big following some weight loss, which meant I had a legitimate need to replace both my boarding pants and jacket.

I love bright colours and after many group snowboarding trips, I’ve learned that distinctive colours make it much easier to pick out other members of the group on thepiste. My Salomon snowboarding boots are a gorgeous deep purple colour so I wanted pants that would look good with them.

I didn’t want to spend more than about £100, so when I came across the Volcom Cascade Ladies Snowboarding Pants on Amazon and saw that in my size they were just £30.06 I snapped them up immediately! It was a good call too, as when I checked today they were selling for £105.04!

After spending a week this season in La Plagne I can say with confidence that I absolutely love these Volcom snowboarding pants! They are a really nice fit  – the description said slim fitting so I decided to go for the XL which I believe is roughly a 14-16.

They performed brilliantly on the mountain, they didn’t fall down and felt comfortable and secure. As a snowboarder you end up doing a lot of bending down to fasten and unfasten snowboard bindings, so trousers that don’t fit well can often leave a bit of a gap at the back, and whilst I would have liked them to sit slightly higher, they didn’t budge and kept me fully covered even when doing up my bindings.

They are a really nice funky urban style with pockets halfway down the legs, a bit like combat pants. I also really love the colour of these pants, “winter orchid” which go perfectly with my existing snowboarding boots (and my snowboard!) and gives me a few good colour options for when I come to replace my snowboarding jacket.

Importantly, they sit on the natural waist line and the waist can be adjusted via velcro to make them smaller should you need to. The bottoms are nice and wide so they fit well over my snowboarding boots and bindings and they are super comfy to wear and kept me nice and warm and dry, without overheating.

I should point out that in boarding gear I usually look for fully taped seams, but given I no longer spend half of my time in a heap on my bum, I figured critically taped seams would do the job, especially at the bargain price of £30!

These are a fantastic pair or boarding pants, and it’s the first time I’ve purchased anything from Volcom, so I’ll definitely be making sure they are more on my radar for snowboarding gear in the future.
