The Verdict

As somewhat of an audiophile and an outdoors one at that, I’ve been looking forward to putting these earbuds to the test. Straight out of the box, the quality of these buds feels beyond their price range.

Build quality

The build quality is very impressive, coming in a compact sturdy charging case the buds are held confidently in place magnetically. Also included is a selection of 4 tips to suit most ears, using the larger set for myself, the buds fit comfortably into the ear much, in the same way any wired variety would.

I did however find that not being used to earbuds, and with them being slightly bulkier and heavier than the wired variety, I felt like I didn’t have the same confidence that they would stay in. I did manage a good 20-minute session on the treadmill however, and they stayed put.

Sound quality

Despite the entry-level price range, the W240s come with coaxial dual dynamic drivers, advanced Bluetooth V5.3 and active noise cancellation with ambient sound mode.

This might not mean all that much to the layman, but means they provide wide immersive sound and are good at blocking out background noise whilst keeping a solid connection.

Edifier W240 ear bud review

I’ve always been the sort that needs to fiddle around to get the sound exactly how I like it “Hey man don’t play with my EQs” and for this reason, I found downloading the Edifier APP to my phone allowed me to more fully geek out and after a few minutes tinkering, I had the sound levels how I wanted them.

The benefit of this all going through the Edifier app is that the EQs travel across the board weather you are watching something on youtube, streaming via Spotify or listening through your chosen music player.

Sound quality was very impressive, although I found they do struggle with reproducing some of the heavier bass tones, but was a lot better than anything else in this price bracket. I do listen to a lot of my music directly from Flac so was slightly disappointed with the only codec being offered is SBC maybe this is something that can be rectified with a software update

The buds also came into their own connecting to my Nintendo Switch, via the app you can access Game Mode which lowers the latency so what you hear matches up with what you see.

I found they were really good for a few hours of gaming on the Switch and being wireless obviously made the handheld experience more immersive, especially when you can hear which direction a Bokoblin on horseback is about to attack you from.

The controls can be a little fiddly as they use physical buttons which means you tend to push the buds into your ear a little each time you want to skip a track, pause a song or turn something on or off, I preferred to do most things via the app and widget though which I didn’t have a problem with.

Calls work fine with the buds in and voices are clear on both ends with very little background noise, so they definitely a goo bet for taking calls when out and about.

Final thoughts

To wrap things up I have been very impressed with the Edifiers, I am not fully converted from my wired over-ear cans but if you’re an earbud fan, then for overall sound quality and versatility at this price point, you’re going to find these Edifiers hard to beat.

In terms of price, these earbuds provide excellent value for money, and at the time of publishing, were on sale at £45 on Amazon, making them even better value!
