WELLBEING | Ideas & Inspiration For Surviving Lockdown – Craft Something, Learn Something!

Camping Blog Camping with Style | Travel, Outdoors & Glamping Blog

As restrictions on movement continue to hit the UK meaning many of us are spending more time indoors, you might find you have a little more time on your hands. Chase away potential boredom and stop yourself getting cabin fever by learning something new or crafting something, and remember, the outdoors remains open….for now.

For those that are off work, either because they are self-isolating, furloughed or can’t do their job from home, then it’s likely you’ll have some time on your hands, and there’s only so much Netflix you can take!

The outdoors is open…to a point!

Of course we need to keep up to date with the news and the latest advice, but I’m a big advocate in not overdoing it as it’s easy to feel stressed and overwhelmed in such uncertain times. So why not use this time to learn something new or get creative? Finish a craft project, start a new one and importantly, do your best to support local, independent businesses in the process.

It’s worth remembering too that whilst we all might be a little jittery right now and indeed some will be self-isolating or feeling too poorly to leave the house, the outdoors is always open and getting out for a local walk – whilst of course, practicing social distancing – could do you the world of good.

At the time of writing, the UK government have made clear that going for a walk independently can continue and is a good way to maintain health and wellbeing. However, as of 23/03/2020 only 1 walk per day for health reasons is permitted and please ensure you adhere to social distancing guidelines to minimise the chance of spreading or catching COVID-19.

Getting out for a LOCAL walk could do you the world of good!

Some parks, public spaces and national parks are closed to visitors due to worryingly large numbers of people who have been ignoring social distancing advice and you absolutely should not be travelling by car for walks. Please ensure you keep up to date with the daily briefings as the situation is changing here in the UK on a daily basis.

Shop local and support small businesses where possible!

I can’t stress enough how important it is to all do our best to support local independent businesses at this time – instead of the supermarket, I’ve been shopping for veg exclusively at my local farm shop for example.

I used a local craft shop, Black Sheep Wools and ordered online to stock up on yarn over the weekend so I’ve got plenty of crochet, knitting and crafting projects to keep me occupied during lockdown.

Please be patient though. Many craft shops are experiencing very high demand right now, so your order might take longer to arrive than usual!

…and if you can’t shop local

Of course there’s no denying that businesses that offer online ordering are going to prosper, and none more so than the likes of Amazon. Thanks to their fast delivery and vast choice, if you’re looking for ideas on what to do with your time or want to stock up on craft supplies, we’ve put together some ideas below.

Like many people, I’m struggling income-wise right now, and the below Amazon recommendations use affiliate code so any purchases will result in a few pence of revenue.
