What we thought

CimAlp SUMMIT 2 H Men's Softshell Jacket

With my urge to be outdoors higher than ever due to the lockdown restrictions, I had been in need of a suitable jacket to see me through the UK’s very variable weather conditions. On local walks during lockdown and later on walks further afield in the Peak District, Wales and Cornwall, I’ve found plenty of opportunities to put the put the Summit 2 H Jacket to the test over the last few months.

Jacket styling

The first thing I want to talk about is the styling. I went for the black and red option and love the minimalist look of the jacket. There is nothing loud about the design it looks the part and the use of red makes the practical features stand out.

CimAlp SUMMIT 2 H Men's Softshell Jacket

Designed for intense hiking and mountaineering, this lightweight jacket is big on performance, but its smart looks that mean it can double up for every day use and is also ideal for your winter your daily commute…if commuting ever becomes a thing again!

Jacket performance

The Summit is a 3 Layer softshell making it waterproof, windrooof and breathable so it has served me well over the past few months through the changing seasons.

On warmer days I kept cool via the generous armpit vents which helped stop me overheating and on rare truly warm and sunny days, it was no bother tucking the jacket away into my backpack as it weighs in at just 790g.

On colder rainy days I was surprised by how well it kept out the wind and rain, effectively keeping me warm and dry – the jacket performed a lot better than some of my heavier coats.

Plenty of pockets

There are 3 inside pockets one of which is zippable and comes with a very handy headphone hole The two generous front pockets I found perfect for my gloves and hat when not wearing them and there was even ample room for my full-size headphones to tuck away when not in use.

I am really fussy with hoods and like to feel warm and dry without resembling Kenny from South Park. The hood on this jacket is designed with room for when you are wearing a helmet and as I have full-sized headphones and generally sport a man bun, I still had plenty of room and really loved the design.

The hood toggles make it easy to tighten things up should the need occur, but I was very happily dry under my hood on a rainy ramble with a Boards of Canada soundtrack.
