What we thought

After lockdown restrictions were lifted, I was keener than ever to get outdoors, somewhere further afield than my local supermarket. A hike to Shutlingsloe in the Peak District provided the perfect first test for the CimAlp Katmandou 2 trousers. Read on to find out how I got on with them.

Being on the slender side I usually have difficulty finding a walking trouser that fits comfortably and stays up, but I had no problems with these trousers and even with plenty in my pockets weighing them down, they stayed in place.

I found them a comfortable, light and an airy loose fit, without being baggy with the added benefit of UV protection, much needed on a very sunny hike in the countryside.

Pockets & features

The styling is similar to combat pants, so the CimAlp Katmandou pants come with pockets aplenty.

A discreetly hidden internal pocket is ideal for keeping valuable items safe whilst out and about, the large front pockets allow you to store other items you may need to keep at hand and one of the pockets includes a glasses wipe which came in handy for my sunglasses.

There’s also a zippable compartment that’s perfect for keeping your precious mobile phone safe whilst clambering over a stile in style, so no fear of smashed screens here!

The side pockets are generous and mesh ventilated and I found they were just right for keeping my map book in. There’s even a tiny little built-in compass should you choose to do some impromptu orienteering.

The main feature of these trousers is that you can quickly transform them into shorts, the bottom section of each leg completely unzips. Incorporating a clever two zip system, there was no need to take my boots off to change and I removed them without even having to sit down. My lockdown white pins soon had the benefit of being out in the sunshine.

I did find the zip a little fiddly, but this may have been due to me not being familiar with how they worked and being over-ambitious in looking for a quick costume change similar to Bucks Fizz’s Eurovision performance.

It was a very warm day and decent length walk, but I never once felt sweaty, overly hot or weighted down, so in terms of comfort and performance, I felt like they delivered and I really liked the styling of these trousers too, I felt I kept cool whilst still looking cool.

The CimAlp Katmandou 2 convertible trousers are extremely practical. Although I found them a little fiddly to convert, the zips that allow you to turn them from trousers into shorts make them a versatile trouser choice, and ideal for warm weather walks.

Quality, as always with CimAlp is excellent, so if you’re looking for a pair of lightweight, capable walking trousers, these make a great choice.
