Country Walking, Walk 1000 Miles Challenge 2020

Despite being a camping and outdoors blogger who loves walking, I’m ashamed to say that 2019 saw me embark on few big walks. In fact, after we spent Easter up in Scotland where we did some great walks, there followed none of my usual challenging hill or mountain walks and I didn’t manage to get up to the Lake District even once last year, so no more Wainwrights were ticked off in 2019.

The year seemed to speed by and as is so often the case, everyday life took priority and although I still spent heaps of time outdoors, it was mainly thanks to woodland strolls, local canal-side dog walks and camping.

When I picked up the February 2020 edition of Country Walking, I found out about their annual challenge to walk 1000 miles in a year.

On a whim, me and my Fiance have decided to give it a go. We’ve not even roughly calculated what we usually clock up miles wise in a year and have no clue if, with our full-time desk-bound office jobs, it’s achievable for us or not, but it felt like a good challenge all the same!

The thing that really clinched it though is that medals are available for those that complete 1000 miles, but also for those who manage just 500 miles too. We’ve both signed up and even if we don’t reach 1000 miles, we’re going to have a jolly good bash at it!
