GEAR | Teva Cabrillo Crossover Leather Sandal Review
What we tested
Teva Cabrillo Crossover Leather Sandal £55
What we thought
Straight off, the style of the sandals appealed. They are quick and easy to put on, thanks to the velco fastening at the rear, which also makes for a close, customisable fit.
I have an old pair of hiking sandals but because of their style, I only ever wear them for summer walks as their styling means they don’t look good in an urban setting with my normal clothes.
The Teva Crossover however is ideal for wearing anytime, and it goes with literally every piece of clothing I’ve tried them with.
I over pronate, so prefer quite a severe footbed, for this reason I find the Birkenstocks footbed ideal. Whilst the Teva Cabrillo footbed is shaped and supportive, the arch area isn’t quite as pronounced, so whilst I would be unable to wear these for long day hikes, I’ve been walking a few miles each day in them, and they have remained comfortable and my feet pain free.
Pros
- Excellent fit.
- Super comfy and easy to wear.
- The styling is extremely versatile; can be worn with a pretty summer dress, hiking shorts, jeans, anything!
- Really good grip.
Cons
- They aren’t like the usual Teva hiking sandals and don’t have a footbed that’s anwhere near as shaped or supportive, so for those of us that overpronate, the inclusion of a more supportive arch is needed to make them suitable for long walks.
- There isn’t much give in the velcro, so if you have wide/large feet, you may find the fit a little too snug.
The verdict
The Cabrillo Crossover is the ideal summer sandal. It’s incredibly versatile and looks good no matter what you’re wearing, or what you’re doing. Mine are coming with me to the South of France next month, and since arriving, I’ve worn them every day, including for work.
I’ve taken these to the South of France, and several months on, I traveled to the Maldives in them, and they actually get comfier with increased use, and mine still look perfect.
If you are looking for something that is comfortable, stylish and versatile, then I would highly recommend them, or if you fancy something with slightly different styling, you can take a closer look at the rest of the Teva range here.
