Muddy Puddles Puddleflex Jacket

The Muddy Puddles Puddleflex jackets, made from recycled plastic were an instant hit with Franklin, aged 9 and Dexter, aged 7.

Every detail is so well thought out, from the soft cover at the top of the zip to stop any rough fabric against a child’s face, to the double zip to allow for some extra air flow (or movement when climbing), these are beautifully designed clothes.

My seven-year-old took a bit of time getting used to the double zip, but loved being able to partially undo it from the bottom. The soft lining is so snuggly and cosy, both children said they felt soft and cuddly.

A great sustainable shopping choice

The children also loved that they are made from recycled plastic and good for the environment, this ethos is carried on with a note inside the coat to pass it on when it gets too small which we thought was a lovely touch and It is very reassuring to be shopping with an ethical company.

The coats are sturdy enough that they are not going to damage easily, which is often a challenge with two very active children.  The storm flap means that there are no drafts and after one particular woodland walk which ended with the heavens opening, we discovered that (thankfully!) the coats really are fully waterproof!

Muddy Puddles Puddleflex Fleece-Lined Wellies

Fleece-lined for cosy toes

If I thought that the coats went down well with the children, then the Puddleflex Fleece-Lined Wellies were even more successful and the soft lining means that my seven-year-old will try to sneak out with them on without socks, as he loves the feeling of the fleece.

The wellies are tall enough for the children to be able to take on even the deepest puddles, and the soles have good enough grips for the children to be able to climb over rocks and up trees in them.

Clever safety features

On rainier days, in the woods or darker evenings the children are visible due to the reflective strip on the boots, and also on parts of the coats, which is helpful to me, and the strips shine brightly in car headlights, or streetlights to help keep them safe in a more urban environment.

The lace tie is a great design addition to the boots, so they can pull them tight when the weather is really wet and blustery, and it makes a noticeable difference to keeping their feet warm and dry.

I love that they come in their own bag, so if they are very muddy, we just pop them in the bag, and the mess is contained.

The boys said they look so stylish and feel awesome, that they would give them the full Camping with Style, 5 star rating (actually they said they would give them 10 stars!).

Muddy Puddles Waterproof Gloves

The waterproof gloves again have been well designed with attention to details, that they are big enough around the wrist for children to put them on easily, and with the elasticated wrist to keep out the cold, and make sure that they stay firmly on!

Clever design and great attention to detail

The gloves came up a bit big on the boys, I don’t know if they have particularly small hands, or are just used to tighter gloves, so the 5-8 yrs actually fitted my nine-year-old.

They soon forgot that they were wearing them, which is a bonus, as it meant they kept them on longer, and the reinforced palms helped with climbing and gripping.  The fact that when the inevitably get dirty that they are machine washable is a real bonus, as sometimes other gloves can shrink in the wash.

Muddy Puddles

Final say

Overall, all 3 of the items we tested have proved very popular and have become firm favourites with the boys.  Even as the weather has gotten warmer, it has been hard to persuade them out of the boots and into summer shoes!

As a parent, the sustainable credentials of the jacket in-particular are impressive and with clever design and safety features, it’s clear to see that Muddy Puddles have got it absolutely right, creating products for kids that are practical, hard-wearing and most importantly fun and something they actually want to wear!

The generous sizing means they can grow into the clothes and get more wear out of them, and I loved the reminder that the clothing should be passed down or on once outgrown.

We are very grateful to have been given the chance to review these, and I know that they will become staples from now on.
