The Bosch Fontus arrives with no assembly required and the hose was very easy to pop into place. With the cleaning tools handily stowed away inside the unit and the battery fast to charge, in just under an hour it was fully charged and ready to use for the first time.

I live in a new build property and don’t have an outside tap which means doing a lot of things like cleaning my car, gardening equipment and walking boots can be a bit of a challenge, so I was looking forward to seeing whether the Fontus would make my life any easier at all.

To fill the large tank, I used my watering can, keeping my eye on the clear plastic strip on the side which provides a visual guide as to how full the unit is at any given point.

The Fontus is very easy to move around once full, thanks to the extending handle on the top which allows you to wheel it around, a bit like a suitcase.

The Verdict

I think the first thing to make clear is that this isn’t a pressure washer so don’t expect a power jet strong enough to clean your patio. That said, there are 2 different attachments, a brush and a spray gun and so I was keen to see how it would fare when used to tackle several different tasks.

Cleaning the exterior of my home

I have horrible white UPVc windows at home that are forever looking grubby with spiders webs clinging to the corners that attract muck. Usually I have to fill up a washing up bowl with hot soapy water and use a cloth to wipe them down, but with the Fontus, it made life much easier. I sprayed the UPVc frames and cills with cleaning spray first before hosing everything down, and it worked like a treat.

Another use I found for the Fontus was cleaning things like my large garden planters and outside lights. They definitely aren’t the sort of thing I’d want to blast with a pressure washer, but the Fontus was gentle enough not to risk damage, but powerful enough to get rid of grime and cobwebs.

Cleaning muddy boots

After a particularly muddy walk at Brereton Heath near where I live, I returned home with mud caked all over my boots. Usually, I’d have to fill a bucket and use a cloth to clean them. The Fontus however, was perfect for tackling my muddy boots, and in the wetter winter months, I can see it getting a lot of use for this purpose.

Watering plants

The fine spray setting makes it perfect for watering plants, and it’s also useful if you have a dog as it can be used for cleaning off muddy paws.

Cleaning the car

Whilst the Fontus isn’t a pressure washer, I still found it really handy for cleaning my car. I hosed the car all over initially with a cap of car shampoo added direct to the water tank and used the brush attachment to scrub my car, before refilling the water tank to rinse the car off.

Although the brush attachment could ideally be a little bigger, It did a really good job with the battery holding up just long enough to clean several windows and the outside of my plastic storage sheds as well as my car.

Overall Rating 4 out of 5 stars (4 / 5)

The Bosch Fontus is pricey, but it’s a really great bit of kit. If like me you don’t have an outside tap, it makes a great alternative to a pressure washer, though it’s not as powerful so do bear that in mind, but even so you’ll probably be surprised at just how many uses you can find for it.

The integrated water tank is a great size and big enough to tackle most jobs without needing to endlessly refill it, though when cleaning my car, I did need to refill it once (however, I’ve got a big car!).

For blasting grime off external window cills, cleaning gardening equipment, muddy walking boots, washing the car and even using the fine spray to water hanging baskets, I have found the Fontus to be extremely versatile and handy around the home.

The Fontus is an incredibly useful bit of kit, though I’m sure the price tag might put some off.
