What we thought

With previous walking boots, I’ve found them to be on the large side, particularly in terms of width, which had lead to the boots rubbing on long walks, causing sore points and even blisters on a couple of occasions, so one of my main criteria for new boots, was that they needed to provide a better (closer) fit.

With an RRP of £140, the Hike II GTX boots aren’t cheap, but compared to both of my existing pairs of walking boots (both entry level, at under £50) these are superb, and it’s easy to see why they command the premium price tag.

As well as providing a much closer fit, the lacing system in the Hike II GTX boots is excellent, providing a really secure fit that allows for more precise adjustment, and keeps the boots firmly anchored at the ankle. The boot features heel stability technology which further helps to eliminate the motion that can result in blisters.

Handy heel loops, that make it easy to get the boots on

The boots have excellent grip on the soles and I also really liked the heel loops, which made getting the boots on very easy. The first time I wore them, I did a tentative 4 hour walk over easy terrain, and for brand new boots, I found them extremely comfortable and look forward to putting them through their paces on some more challenging winter walks.

Our Verdict

Superb boots that provide an excellent fit, great traction and ankle support. Available for a shade under £100, these boots are a worthy investment for anyone looking to upgrade from an entry or mid level walking boot, or for those seeking a better fitting boot, that’s capable of taking on most hiking conditions.
