What did I think?

I put the Salomon Quest 4D’s through their paces on a variety of different walks with my pooch Norman in tow.

Usually I’m anything between a size 6 to a 6.5 in walking shoes, and I found the 6.5 fitted me perfectly.

As it’s the summer I wasn’t wearing my usual thick Merino hiking socks, just normal cotton-wicking walking socks, but when trying the Quests on with my thick hiking socks at home I was pleased to find that the fit was still good.

Whilst on our first hike out in the boots the conditions were extremely wet and soggy I was pleased that the Quest 4D’s weren’t only comfy, but they kept me sure-footed and didn’t let any moisture in.

In the past I’ve found walking boots with quite a high ankle to be rather uncomfortable around the lower leg area before they’ve been worn in. Within half an hour of giving the Salomons their maiden outing though, I’d forgotten I was wearing them.

Huge thumbs up from me!

Comfort

The molded Eva midsole feature really does give plenty of cushioning and stability just as Salomon claims it does. Couple this with how quickly the boots felt comfortable during my first 2.5 hour walk in them, I’d happily grab these to wear for hiking, rambling and dog walking alike.

Grip

My dog Norman and I tend to favour going off-road meaning long walks in some challenging conditions, so I was eager to see how the grip performed on the boots.

We headed off for a ramble over the Clent Hills in the West Midlands and made a beeline for some tricky terrain. I was duly impressed with not just the grip the Quests provided, but once again the waterproofing proved a winner as we sploshed our way through streams.

Final Thoughts

Since getting the Saloman Quests, they have been my walking shoe of choice on my longer rambles out with the dog.

Sturdy yet failry lightweight, comfortable and waterproof. All of the features any self-respecting walking shoe should offer, you’ll find in the Saloman Quest 4D’s. If you’re after a new pair of walking boots, your hard earned cash will be well spent here.
