With everything from touring pitches to luxury lodges, Sauchope Links occupies a stunning coastal position, offering fast access to beaches, coastal walks and the lovely fishing village of Crail. Whether camping, glamping or staying in a lodge, you’ll enjoy the most spectacular views of May Island and the Firth of Forth, with the sound of waves and fresh sea air a constant companion.
Frequent visitors to Scotland, this was our first time visiting the east coast and Fife in particular, so we were just as keen to spend our final few days relaxing as we were to see what this area had to offer.
On arriving at the park, first impressions were good, with a friendly and efficient check in experience. Our lodge was located at the far end of the park which is around 1km in length, with a car parking space at the front.

The 1 bedroom lodges are light, clean and airy and look just like the photos on the website, but the views are the real show stopper. The lodge has large sliding doors to the living area and even bedroom windows placed strategically to provide uninterupted views of the sea.
We always appreciate feeling a connection to the space that we’re in and the sound of the waves and the fresh sea air was a constant, welcome companion with views that made it difficult to pull ourselves away from the seating on our huge private deck.
Of course, with this being a hot tub lodge, we made good use of it, sometimes twice a day and its location meant that even from the hot tub, we could enjoy the same fabulous sea views.
The water maintained a good temperature throughout our stay and the powerful jets combined to provide maximum relaxation – add in a bottle of Prosecco and we were happily in holiday heaven in no time.
Once we left the hot tub to prepare dinner, we found a well equipped kitchen with everything we needed to self cater.
We stopped off at the wonderful Gloagburn Farm Shop on our way across the country, but there is a small Spar and also a grocers within walking distance in Crail, and a little futher in Anstruther, there’s a large Co-op for anything you might need.
On site, you’ll find a wee shop stocked with some essentials (including extra kindling and logs for the wood burner), a kids play park and even an outdoor heated swimming pool!
Visiting during the second week of September meant the site was quiet and each time I used the pool I had it to myself – a real bonus as despite being right on the coast, the rocks mean it’s not an ideal spot for sea swimming.
Out and About
Speaking of swimming, for those that want to swim or just spend a day at the beach, there’s a beach in Crail and plenty a little further up the coast to choose from too. Of course I can’t talk about this area, just 10 miles from St. Andrews without mentioning golf and whilst that doesn’t float our own personal boat, the area is a mecca for golfers.
We didn’t make it into St. Andrews (you can catch the bus if you fancy a break from driving), but we did explore Crail on foot and visited lovely Anstruther twice, once for fish and chips and once for ice cream – it wouldn’t be a proper UK holiday without indulging in either really would it?
The Wee Chippy does decent fish and chips, Scoop does fabulous ice creams and we can also recommend grabbing a coffee and cake from Coast. There are plenty of places to eat and drink in Anstruther, a beach and the Scottish Fisheries Museum. If you fancy a boat trip to nearby Isle of May nature reserve, you can board a cruise from the Harbour here too (check out Anstruther Pleasure Cruises).
The Final Say
Sauchope Links holiday park is a wonderful little park with a variety of accommodation to suit all needs and budgets. The outdoor pool is a real bonus and being able to hear the sea, walk on the beach and enjoy the incredible views felt like a real treat, whilst the log burner and the hot tub, were the icing on the cake.
I wouldn’t hesitate to return and absolutely loved our time there and in Fife in general, which is a truly lovely part of Scotland.
