I have a bit of an aversion to the standard shades of black, navy and bottle green that a lot of camping chairs and equipment tends to come in, so I was excited to get my hands on two bright and funky looking VW camp chairs, inspired by the iconic 1960s VW T2 campervan. Although not lucky enough to own a classic T2, we do have the next best thing, a modern long wheel base T5 VW making these officially licenced chairs the perfect camping accessory.

What We Thought

VW Padded Folding Chair

On test first is the VW padded folding chair. We liked this because although it is structurally similar to many other chairs of this type on the market, it certainly has the edge.

The extra padding gives it a sense of luxury not always offered with this style of folding chair and best of all has to be the cool colours that this comes in.

You can choose from purple, Light blue, retro red or mint green. Our green model really stood out and sat wonderfully next to our van. It also turned a few heads.

Of course, its not ALL about good looks. sitting in the chair, it feels roomy, stable and comfortable with an extra high back offering superior support. There is also an ever-so-welcome drinks holder provided in one of the arms for that obligatory cool summer beverage.

Strength and stability are provided by the chairs’ 18mm tubular steel frame which is powder-coated for enhanced rust-resistance.

Folded up in seconds, the chair comes with a durable 420D nylon bag to conveniently store it away. The bag features a drawstring to securely close it and a strap to comfortably carry over your shoulder. Lightweight and compact, it can be easily carried with the rest of your camping gear and takes up very little space in your tent, garage, or vehicle.

At £29.99 the padded chair is the priciest in the range, but it is also the most luxurious so definitely worth it.

VW Low Folding Beach Chair

On to the second chair we tested, the VW low folding beach chair. Being a perennial floor dweller, I was keen to try this one out. I like to be close to the ground and this chair certainly allows for this with the seat being approximately 6 inches from the ground.

It really encourages you to put your head back, close your eyes and soak up the summer rays. This is definitely a chair for when the sun is shining, the tunes are playing and you have a cold drink in your hand!

OK, let’s be realistic, its probably not going to suit your gran or anyone with mobility issues, but there are 3 other styles of chair to choose from in the range for those unable to comfortably use such a low chair.

Like the padded chair, the low chair also comes in four awesome colours and has a tubular steel frame. The seat is 600D with PVC coating to protect it from the elements.. The frame has a silver-coloured powder coating for enhanced rust-resistance and It can also be folded up in seconds and packed into the durable 210D nylon bag. The bag features a drawstring to securely fasten it and a strap to carry over your shoulder.

Priced at £22.99 the low folding beach chair is suitable for most peoples pocket and is super lightweight and portable. Perfect if you are very limited on space or simply have a lot to carry. Being so low also means you get to be closer to any food strewn around your picnic blanket, and that can’t be a bad thing!
