The Lowdown

The Avea mood light is like a giant egg which softly glows, depending on the colour profile you choose. It’s operated via your smartphone (Android and iOS) using Bluetooth.

The light claims to transform your home, but because it’s so highly portable and holds a charge for more than 8 hours, it’s also perfect for camping.

I’m highly sensitive to light and bright harsh lighting hurt my eyes. My home is full of various colour changing electrical devices, including a little mains operated device that lives on my bedside table, and helps me to wind down and sleep better.

Finding and installing the app in the Play Store on my Android device was simple, and in a few seconds it was installed and talking to the Avea Flare. I tried a few of the colour pre-sets and found my favourite to be the Candyland setting. I like the fact you could also control the intensity of each colour pre-set and that you had to option to go for just a solid colour.

I kept mine on my bedside camp table, and changed it to a bright colour setting and read in bed using it. We found that it was also fantastic for sitting outside at night under the stars. Because the light is diffused and you can even change the colour intensity, it allows you to see without destroying your night vision, making it great for star gazing.

The Verdict

Despite loving it, I’m not going to tell you that the Avea Flare is a must-have glamping accessory, that would be silly, but I am going to tell you that it is beautifully designed, simple to use, and really does create a wonderful atmosphere inside (or outside) your tent, and for that reason it’s definitely worth considering. I use it daily at home, and next time we go camping in our bell tent, I’ll definitely be taking it with us.
