WALKING | An Easy Winter Walk Around Teggs Nose Country Park

Camping Blog Camping with Style | Travel, Outdoors & Glamping Blog

Despite a less than favourable weather forecast, we decided to head out towards The Peak District today, and went for walk around Teggs Nose Country Park.

High in the hills just outside of Macclesfield Cheshire on the Peak District Border, lies Teggs Nose, an old quarry, the summit of which reaches 380 metres. We headed straight for the visitor centre and were greeted by the cheerful warden, who pointed us in the direction of various maps and helped us select a short walking route taking us to the summit and around the top of the old quarry.

From such a high vantage point, you can see for miles out across Cheshire, with Jodrell Bank radio telescope visible off in the distance. Despite it being an overcast day, the views were impressive, and the short 1 mile route around the top of the Quarry was quick and easy.

There are other routes that can be taken which are longer, and take you down and around the reservoir, before climbing back up to the Teggs Nose summit.

About half way around the sky turned dark and we could see what we thought was rain sweeping in on us. It turned out to be a ferocious hail storm, followed by snow.

There are several bike routes, as well as much longer 17 and 35 mile walks, all accessible from here, but even on the short route that we took, you also get to see some old quarry  machinery, some of which dates back to the 1920’s.
