The Lowdown

There’s no denying that the design of these shoes makes them stand out. Made from two lengths of flat or round bungee cord, these sandals are available in heaps of different funky colour combinations, and are available for both men and women.

Looks wise, initially I wasn’t sure what I thought of them, but the more I’ve worn them, the more I like them. They are light and comfortable and as we’ve been basking in some lovely weather here in the UK these last few days, apart from a night out, these sandals haven’t left my feet!

I struggle with open summer shoes and sandals, as I have dodgy arches, and can usually only wear Birkenstock’s which have a supportive footbed. However, they aren’t great for walking long distances, and they just aren’t practical enough for setting up camp and general every day use.

Keen Uneek Shoes

The Keen Uneek sandals are extremely comfortable, and thanks to the anatomical foodbed, are comfy to wear, even for me.  The bungee cord is adjustable, which makes for a great fit too. The website warns that they run a little small, advising to go a 1/2 size up when ordering. I’m usually a size 6 however and these fit perfectly in a size 6.

The Verdict

I love the vast array of colour options available, and whilst I like the light gray and lime green version I was sent, I’d probably have opted for something a bit brighter given the choice.

I can see me wearing these all summer long as they give me the support of a closed shoe and orthotic insert, but the coolness of a sandal. For summer camping, kayaking, walks and visits the beach I will definitely be wearing/packing my Uneek sandals, as they are just so comfy and versatile and I’ve grown to love their quirky looks.

The only downside I have found after 18 months of wearing them, is if you are walking on a beach with small pebbles on, they get inside the shoes and you’ll end up having to take them out to shake the pebbles out.

Edited to add: 18 months on and they are still my shoe of choice for all beach and water based activities, check out me kayaking in them below just last week (August 2017) – they still look great too!
