WALKING | A New Year’s Day Walk Around Walton Park in Liverpool
After a late night spent welcoming in the New Year with close friends, I wake up with a sore head and a raging desire to drink litres of water. The voices of some of my early rising friends drift upstairs as I mentally tot up the number of cocktails and glasses of Prosecco I drank the night before.
Too many I conclude.
I wander downstairs as more bleary eyed people emerge from bedrooms, and after an indulgent breakfast of delicious pastries, we decide a New Year’s Day walk is in order.
We layer up and head out, moving away from a heavily urbanised part of Liverpool until we reach the oasis of green that is Walton Hall Park.
Opened in 1934 by King George V, the 130 acre park was recently saved from development, with plans for Everton Football ground to relocate there scrapped.
We manage a modest 4 mile walk, but it provides me with just enough fresh air to make me feel a little more human again.
Dragging myself outdoors when all I really wanted to do is snooze on the couch feels like I’ve made the right start to the year. Despite a prevailing lethargy, I’m feeling positive, relaxed and ready to make the most of every moment of 2017. Happy New Year everyone!
