What we thought

We’re big fans of our Hubi Go 10k, but when it comes to traveling overseas or for short camping trips and wild camping, taking something that big is overkill, making a smaller power bank a must.

I’ve used and owned countless power banks over the years and have used several of a similar style to this one. Amazon can be a bit of a minefield of fake reviews and seemingly identical products with different names, so making a sound decision isn’t always easy.

Damipow Solar Power Bank 20000mAh

The Damipow power bank took a few hours to charge to full when it first arrived, with handy indicator lights on the front to tell you how much power is left in it.

I then charged my mobile phone from 42% to 100%. I was surprised by how fast it charged, not quite the quick charge I get using my original cable plugged into the mains, but not far off, I was back to 100% in just 30 minutes.

I then took it on a weekend camping trip and relied solely on the power bank for the whole weekend. It was able to keep my phone topped up all weekend, and I also used it to recharge my Nomad Inset-o-cutor camping lantern.

I like the convenience of having preattached USB cables one that I could use on my phone, the other I used for the camping lantern, and both items could be charged at the same time too.

The only thing I didn’t like is that the solar panel on the front is pretty ineffectual, in fact, after leaving it out in the sun all day with the third power indicator light flashing, at the end of the day and third indicator light was still flashing.

It feels to me like the solar panel doesn’t really add much (if anything) to the functionality of the device, but I’m sure it would be better than nothing in an emergency situation, that said, I’d be inclined to regard this as a mains rechargeable power bank rather than a solar power bank

Pros

  • Solid feeling
  • Light and highly portable
  • Quick to charge using mains power
  • Charges phones quickly
  • Built-in torch function
  • Preattached USB C and USB B cables
  • Eco-friendly, minimal packaging

Cons

  • Very slow to charge using solar power

Damipow Solar Power Bank 20000mAh

For travel and camping trips, this is a good little power bank that represents decent value for money. I managed to get 4 full charges of my smartphone out of it, so it’s ideal for weekend camping trips.

Although the battery does charge via the solar panel, after leaving it out on a sunny day all day long, the power hadn’t increased, so the solar panel is very slow, and certainly shouldn’t be realised upon on its own.

The two preattached cables which neatly stow into the sides of the charger make this super handy and ideal for carrying on you when out and about.

You can expect to pay around £25 on Amazon.co.uk for the Damipow power bank.
