Vango Harmony Deluxe Sleeping Bag

What I thought

There’s nothing quite like a cold and wet weekend of camping in North Yorkshire during early Spring for putting camping gear to the test, so in terms of reviewing, the weather was perfect! After arriving at the campsite in torrential rain, following a wet set up (is there anything quite as soul destroying?) the night time temperature was just 2°, which just happens to be the comfort level rating of the sleeping bag I was testing.

Vango Harmony Deluxe Sleeping Bag

At just £50 for a 3 season sleeping bag, I was keen to see how it compares to pricier, more technical rivals and whilst I found the sleeping bag very comfortable and thought it was a good size, with the temperature at 2° on the first night, I did still need an extra blanket and my usual hot water bottle, though I must admit to being notoriously cold at night when I camp.

Hardier souls might well find the Harmony Deluxe sufficient when the temperature is around the 2° mark but the second night which was 4°, I found much more comfortable in the sleeping bag.

The verdict

I must admit that I do prefer envelope style sleeping bags, though past experience has taught me that they are rarely as warm as mummy sleeping bags. I was however pleased to find no cold spots with this sleeping bag, and it was long enough for me to shuffle down into, to ensure my shoulders were completely covered and kept warm.

Whilst on the first night I was a little cold initially and used an extra blanket on the second night which was a couple of degrees warmer I felt much cosier and I didn’t overheat either.

This is a great sleeping bag which provides very good performance for the price

This is a great sleeping bag which provides very good performance for the price. If you like the look of it just be aware that there is another Vango Harmony sleeping bag which is much cheaper but don’t be fooled, that’s the 2 season model, so if you want the 3 season version that I tested, make sure you go for the Vango Harmony with ‘deluxe’ in the title.

If you like the look of the self inflating mattress also featured in some of the pictures, why not check out our review of the Vango Comfort 10 SIM.

Vango Harmony Deluxe Sleeping BagThe 3 season Vango Harmony Deluxe represents brilliant value for money

Pros

  • I like the understated colour of the sleeping bag and the cotton-like feel of the fabric
  • The bag feels warm and snuggly and is a pleasure to use
  • Envelope style so ideal for those who dislike the restriction of mummy-style sleeping bags
  • Great compression/travel sack
  • Ideal for spring camping conditions, for me 4° was the comfort sweet spot
  • Whilst not the warmest, compared to other 3 season sleeping bags I’ve tested, this represents excellent value for money

Cons

  • Due to the generous ‘floofiness’ of the sleeping bag, I got the zipper stuck several times
  • At 2° wearing thermals and with a hot water bottle, I still needed an extra blanket on top to stay warm, though it has to be said, I seem to be exceptionally cold at night when camping
  • It’s a large sleeping bag that takes up quite a lots of space when packed down
