We catch up with Maria, co-founder of size-inclusive, sustainable women’s active outdoor brand Astrid Wild, to find out more about their range and what makes them so special…

Astrid Wild Inclusive Outdoor Gear

Hi Maria, for those that may not have heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about Astrid Wild and what makes the brand so unique?

We design outdoor wear for female shapes that adapt to your body, not the other way around. Astrid Wild was born from the understanding that women’s bodies and tastes have historically not been taken seriously in the outdoor industry.

We are passionate about solving problems for women, for all women to feel confident and like their best selves when being outdoors.

We hear you! So we understand some of the inspiration behind Astrid Wild, but how did it all start?

In 2018, we quit our jobs to travel the world. To hike, surf, and reconnect with nature. When looking for suitable outdoor wear, we couldn’t find anything that inspired us in the women’s section, and we felt we didn’t fit into the stereotypical hiker look.

Specifically, we wanted high-waisted hiking pants with a clean look in nice, earthy colors. After some looking around, we realized we needed to make those pants ourselves!

Yasss! We’re huge fans of high-waisted pants at Camping with Style, we just find them so much more practical. So tell us, what’s a current favourite of the team?

We love the Astrid Outdoor Pants, the design is clean, sassy and the material is just the perfect combination of sturdy and stretchy. Also, these come in different lengths.

If you could only recommend a reader try one of your products, which one would it be?

The Wool Fleeces for sure. A wool fleece is just so different from poly fleeces, and it’s also really versatile. Our customers say they wear it everyday, so definitely a good investment!

We love a snuggly natural wool fleece, and suspect this could be a best seller of your’s would we be right?

Spot on! The Minna Wool Fleece Jacket in Green is our best seller. People are obsessed with the cosy material and high neck. Wearing it feels like getting a hug!

Let’s talk prices, at £159 for hiking pants, you sit at a more premium end of the market – can you tell us more about your production process, sourcing and materials?

We’ve chosen to produce our clothing in Europe, right now in Lithuania, Latvia, and Poland, to minimize transportation from one corner of the world to another, and to make sure the factories follow European laws and policies regarding labour relations practices.

We produce small batches of clothing at a time, to make sure we only produce what our customers demand, and avoid creating waste. We only work with high-quality materials, some of our fabrics, like the merino wool and the fabric used in our most popular pants, are produced in Sweden, the others in Spain and Italy.

Can you give us any news on what might be next for Astrid Wild?

We just launched a pair of dungarees, and we’re so excited about them. They’re really the perfect combination of style and functionality. Also, this fall we’ll stock up with a new batch of our shell jacket for women, the Emma 3L Shell jacket.

You can see the full Astrid Wild range here.
