Montane, the global outdoor brand known for its innovative, breathable clothing for extreme environments, has developed a two-piece expedition specific down jacket and salopettes named Apex 8000, offering unsurpassed functionality for use at high altitudes or on polar expeditions.

New for autumn/winter 2020, the Apex 8000 duo is one of the most breathable down suits of its kind which has been developed in conjunction with expedition leading mountaineers and tested in high, extreme environments of 8000m+.

Both the Apex 8000 jacket and salopettes offer box-wall construction throughout to achieve optimum thermal efficiency. The down suit features the highest performance water-resistant internal coatings, including being filled with 850+ water-resistant, fluorocarbon-free HyperDRY goose down, which results in ultimate protection against the coldest temperatures on Earth.

Montane’s Global Marketing Manager, Matthew Hickman, commented: “We are extremely proud and excited to launch our Apex 8000 jacket and salopettes, a two-piece system which, due to its unrivalled breathability and key features, will help to transform the expedition experience for many over years to come.

Designed with Montane’s ‘Further. Faster.’ philosophy at front of mind, the Apex 8000 suit is a piece of expedition gear which makes no compromise to the functionality or features resulting in key insulation for the wearer whilst repelling and protecting against the most extreme environments on Earth.”

The key features of the Montane Apex 8000 down jacket include articulated arms for high reach movement in addition to a fully adjustable insulated helmet-compatible hood and protective face aperture baffle and suitability to accommodate an oxygen mask.

Furthermore, superior PrimaLoft® insulation in the shoulders and lower back allows for warmth to be retained when under pressure. Synthetic fill resists compression and maintains its shape better than down, so this inclusion amongst the down baffles’ key areas such as these and helps to enhance overall performance.

The Montane Apex 8000 down salopettes include articulated knees and gusset for freedom of movement in addition to extra durable three-way side zips with insulated internal storm flap and press snaps to prevent snow ingress whilst venting, fixed braces with hook and loop adjustability and silicon gripper and harness compatibility fly zip with double insulated storm flaps.

Additionally, there is a lot of passive technology at play in the suit where the fabrics work together to create the optimal internal environment which is warm and dry at high altitudes.

The Apex 8000 suit represents a perfect synergy of science and practical experience and the outcome of rigorous testing.  Scientific testing was performed in cold chambers to quantify important indicators such as internal temperatures and relative humidity* during rest and activity. Under these lab conditions the suit has been proved to perform better than other leading down suits.

Designers worked extensively with Montane hi-altitude athletes both in the field and in laboratory conditions, pushing the suit to its limits to ensure its technologies and features could perform to the high standards required.

Sold separately but intended and designed as part of a two-part system, the Apex 8000 jacket and salopettes are unisex and available in ‘firefly orange’. Both are available for purchase now either online at montane.co.uk and at selected retailers.
