The verdict

There are a few things I look for in walking poles, namely I’m after something that’s sturdy, so I feel like I can trust them when tackling a particularly rocky hill or mountain route.

I also want something that feels comfortable to hold for hours on end, and I also want my poles to be as light as possible to carry when I’m not using them.

The hand grips on these poles are very comfortable

After 5 days walking in Scotland over the Easter weekend, I can happily report back and confidently say that the Hiktrek walking poles delivered on all fronts, and on a few more besides.

The poles were light to carry when stowed away in my backpack

Although I spent most of our 5 day trip using the poles, Shell did use them too on a couple of occasions. I was interested to see how she’d get on with the grips having much smaller hands than me, and she found them just as comfortable to use.

Overall Rating 4.5 out of 5 stars (4.5 / 5)

Despite being lightweight, these poles are very sturdy. The clips that allow you to adjust the pole height stayed firmly in place and don’t slip in use, which is an issue Shell said she’d experienced a few times with her old poles.

We both agreed that the cork hand grips were well-shaped and comfortable and thanks to the use of cork, they effectively stop your hands from getting hot and sweaty.

It’s a big thumbs up from both us then in terms of both quality and performance and whilst they are a little more expensive than the entry-level poles we were both using before, they feel stronger and definitely more comfortable.

Long-Term Test Update

After 3 years of using these poles, they are still going strong and my wife often prefers to use them to her own. In terms of quality and longevity then, it’s another big thumbs up!
