What did we think?
The whole speaker is rubberised which makes it feel nice and sturdy, making it ideal for travel and I found that pairing my phone with the speaker was easy. Once paired, every time I turned the speaker on, my phone instantly recongnised it, and unlike some other Bluetooth devices I have, music started playing without any delay.
On a recent weekend trip up to Scotland I had some audio books on an SD card, and was able to pop the SD card straight into the Extreme Connect to listen to them – a feature that I really like.
The sound is good, but it is quite directional, so the way you position the unit in relation to where you are does have quite a big impact on sound quality, though sound does come from the front and rear, so it’s not difficult to position so the speaker faces you. Sound clarity is good but not perfect, but I think for a speaker of this size, at this kind of price (sub £40) it does a good job. Vocals sound crisp enough and at high volume there’s no bass distortion.
I should also mention that the speaker also allows you to make hands-free voice calls, though I’ve not tested this functionality.
Final thoughts
This is a good value and robust little portable speaker. It’s ideal for taking away on holiday, for use in the garden and in smaller rooms of the house like the kitchen or bathroom. It’s also ideal for camping as it packs away easily and has decent battery life too.
