Our Verdict
The fleece is incredibly light and thin, with a stylish close, slim-fit cut. The half zip is in a contrasting colour and there is also a small zipped pocket on the left hand side of the chest. There are several different colour options available, and Alistair can be seen in the pictures below wearing the navy fleece which has red detailing on the neck, cuffs and zips.
The fleece is slim fitting, and as such not ideal for wearing on top of anything that is too bulky. A t-shirt or thermal base layer is fine though, and fitted well under the fleece, but anything bulkier wasn’t ideal. For this reason, we’d recommend the fleece is used as a mid layer in winter with a coat on top, or as a top layer when out and about in spring or on summer evenings.
As well as being used on several winter walks, the fleece has also been used for weekend trips into the village and used on a recent visit to snowboard at Chillfactore. With the fleece being so slim fitting, it is ideal for snowboarding/skiing, and Alistair wore it on top of a t-shirt and underneath his regular snowboarding jacket, and will be wearing it when we go away to Morzine in March.
Over the last two months, the fleece has worn a lot and has been washed twice, and the microfleece fabric hasn’t bobbled and the fleece has not lost its shape, making it easy to care for. The fleece has even coped with snow, keeping Alistair warm and dry during a dash back to the car after it started snowing during one of our walks.
Practical and easy to wear, with modern, understated styling – this fleece hugely versatile and great value for money.
During our walks, Alistair always pairs this fleece with his winter with his Mens Craghoppers Kiwi Winter Lined Trousers, which together create the perfect outfit for walking in. The only negative Alistair could find, was that he would have preferred pockets he could put his hands in and found the chest pocket too small for anything but loose change.
Would We Recommend It?
For a practical fleece that will keep you warm and comfortable, even in the middle of winter, the Jasper II Half Zip from Craghoppers ticks all of our boxes.
