Am-Tech Lanterns Review

Am-Tech make excellent quality tools and lighting products, including torches and lanterns that can be used around the house, in the garden, or when camping. You can see the full Am-Tech lighting range here.

For the past few weeks, we’ve been putting three of their products through their paces.  Read on to find out how we got on and what we thought of them.

bronze hurricane lamp

Am-Tech 15 LED Hurricane Lamp

This hurricane lamp looks absolutely beautiful and has classic retro styling and an aged, bronzed look to it. As well as looking gorgeous, the light is very bright and we found the dimmer functionality, really useful. Battery life seems good, we’ve used it for a good few hours over 2 camping trips and it’s still going strong. It feels well made, and doesn’t feel as flimsy as a similar styled lamp we bought last year.

We’ve used this hurricane lamp a lot, and of all three items we tested, this is definitely our favourite.

Our verdict

We particularly loved the dimmer function and the retro styling. Highly recommended.

dynamo lantern

Am-Tech 16 LED Dynamo Camping Lantern

Having never used a wind up torch or lantern before, winding this was certainly a bit of a novelty. I spent a few minutes winding and was impressed by how bright the lights were, though I did find they started to dim fairly quickly, and I felt like I needed to wind frequently to keep the light bright.

That said, the quality of the item is superb (as with all of the lanterns we tested from Am-Tech) and it has a robust rubberised bottom, along with a handle that allows it to be easily hung inside a tent from an internal lantern hanging point.

Our Verdict

A sturdy, eco friendly choice that’s a great source of emergency or backup ambient lighting.

glow sticks

Am-Tech LED Glow Sticks With Whistle

These glow sticks are fun and versatile. They come with little fabric straps, easy to pop around yours or a little one’s wrist, and you can choose to use them like a torch, with light coming out of one end, or you can use it as a solid coloured glow stick (red, green or orange), or to alert attention if in trouble, you can choose the flashing mode. Kids especially will love these and they come in a handy pack of 3, making them great value.

Our Verdict

We like the safety feature of having a whistle and think these are ideal for backpackers, to keep in the car, and to give to kids playing outdoors on a campsite in the evening.
