Aerobed Active Plus Airbed Review

Camping Blog Camping with Style | Travel, Outdoors & Glamping Blog

We took the Aerobed Active Plus away with us on our latest weekend camping trip. Read on to see our pictures and to find out how we got on with it.

Aerobed Active

What we tested

  • Aerobed Active Plus Dual Chamber £129.99
  • Double airbed
  • Carry bag
  • 12v charger
  • Mains plug charger
  • 3 different inflation heads
  • Coil construction for equal air distribution
  • 2 year guarantee

We’ve considered Aerobeds several times over the years, but weren’t sure if we could justify the extra cost. Let’s face it, the Aerobed brand is at the premium end of the market and their products aren’t cheap. A higher price tag however, often means better quality and greater longevity, and the Aerobed Active Plus seems to provide exactly that.

What we thought

We liked a number of things about the Aerobed Active Plus, including;

  • Clever rechargeable pump that starts automatically as soon as it’s plugged into the bed.
  • The handy carry bag makes the Aerobed Active ideal for camping, and it’s a good size too, as the deflated bed fits easily back inside after use.
  • Versatility of 2 separate air chambers which means you can inflate just one half and use it as a single if desired.
  • 2 year guarantee means peace of mind.

The pump will inflate the bed 3 times on one full charge, but it is worth noting that it is recommended to charge the pump for 24 hours before use; so it does mean planning ahead, especially if like us, you camp without an electric hookup.

Our verdict

The premium price tag made us a little dubious, but in use, the Aerobed Active is a great quality product that feels sturdy and capable, and provides a comfortable nights sleep. We also liked the carry bag, which made it easy to carry the bed and pump to and from the campsite.  Use is very easy thanks to the clever rechargeable pump, but as with all air beds we have used, it did loose air overnight during use, and required a quick top up the following night.

We’re looking forward to seeing how much use we get out of this airbed, as up to now, we’ve never managed to get more than about a years use from an inflatable mattress; we’ll update this article in a few months time, to let you know how we get on over the long term with it.
